Philippines and Solomon Islands teams gearing to go!
Two teams will take time out of their own holidays to go and serve others this January: 16 to the Philippines, 14 to the Solomon Islands. The focus of the Philippines team will be Evangelism and buidling, and the Solomon Islands will be focusing on building and community service. Both teams need your support. We want to make as much of a difference as possible, but we cannot do this without willing people. Please continue to pray for both of these teams as they make final preparations and continue fundraising efforts for their trips.
Leadership Training 09
One Mission ran its first Leadership Training session for 2009, encouraging students to take the next step to becoming a leader of a mission trip.
The event took place in College Church, where some 20 people attended to learn and grow as a better leader. Education lecturers Jason Hinze and Andy Matthes and Avondale College chaplain Wayne French took the afternoon session, providing valuable information toward student's dreams of mission overseas. The training was very well received, with future projects for 2010 and beyond already in the works.
Students were encouraged to dream big and trust in God's leading, so they can go out with confidence to reach a world in need.
To inspire the group, the year 2010 has already been dubbed "The Year Of Service" for One Mission.
Fire for India
Fundraising for a Mission Trip to India started with a bang at the Five Lands experience concert in the Chan Shun Auditorium on the 19th May. The concert featured fire breathing, fire twirling and drumming.
Percussion band The Rhythm Hunters opened the concert with 72 tribal drums on stage, filing the whole auditorium with the deep sounds of traditional Japanese ceremonial drumming.
According to One Mission’s Jared Martin, the event was a success. “It was the best fundraiser I have ever been to” he says.
The concert raised $2500 for an orphanage and school in Bohd Gaya, India. OneMission’s aim is to raise $10,000, which will be used to buy books, computers and cricket sets. “Children in India are even more fanatical about cricket then Australians”, says Martin.
OneMission also raised extra funds by serving Chai teas and Curry in the auditorium.
The team of 12 who ran the concert will leave for India in just over three weeks time.
